Workplace Civility and Belonging

Workplace incivility is one of the most frequently encountered job stressors experienced by healthcare workers . Its impact on individuals, teams and organizations cannot be overstated.  Team members who experience workplace incivility describe a decreased sense of belonging and decreased levels of engagement at work.  In addition to reduced work effort,  and increased absenteeism, workplace incivility also negatively impacts both the physical and emotional health of your staff.  From a patient safety perspective, workplace incivility is directly associated with  medical error and other sentinel events. Recognizing  this the Joint Commission, now requires organizations to implement strategies that address those behaviors associated with workplace incivility. Our Team Pro® workshop is a direct result of  that requirement.

 Designed to promote teamwork and staff cohesion, this highly interactive workshop explores the spectrum of uncivil behaviors commonly encountered in the emergency department.  By examining their origins and the impact they have on ourselves and our co-workers, we empower employees to make meaningful and sustainable changes in their interpersonal interactions.

Built upon current research on workplace incivility and employee belonging, this workshop challenges participants to examine their own experiences with workplace incivility and guides them in the development of strategies to minimizing its occurrence and mitigating its impact.  After attending this program, participants will leave with a greater understanding of team dynamics and their influence on creating a sense of belonging within the teams that drive the performance of your organization.
