Mr. McGinnis is a visionary entrepreneurial leader with over 30 years of experience training, leading and shaping high performing teams both at home and abroad. He holds a bachelor’s degree as a Physician Assistant from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Physician Assistant Studies with a concentration in Emergency Medicine from the University of Nebraska, as well as an Executive Certificate in Health Care Leadership and Management from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. A life-long student of leadership, organizational culture and organizational change, he is in the dissertation stage of his doctoral degree in Human and Organizational Learning with The George Washington University. His current research focuses on individual resilience and workplace incivility in the healthcare industry.
Recognized as a dynamic speaker, Mr. McGinnis has an extensive track record presenting nationally as well as internationally. A frequent lecturer for two separate physician assistant training programs, he has also served as an instructor with the United States Army Special Warfare Center and School and provided instructional programs for several government agencies within the Washington, DC area such as DHS, DHHS and the FBI. He was an early participant in the African Crisis Response Initiative and was a key contributor to the White House working group addressing emergency response to mass shootings and improvised IED's. His contributions to that working group were directly influential in the development of the current "Stop the Bleed" campaign.
Mr. McGinnis served over 25 years with the United States Army beginning his career as an enlisted medic and gaining his commission through the Army Physician Assistant training program. Retiring as a Major in 2013, he brings a wealth of experience leading multinational teams. His experiences directing humanitarian efforts across East Africa combined with his experience leading and training medical support teams within the Joint Special Operations Command, as well as his experience as a Special Forces medical sergeant operating in Central and South America, give him a unique perspective on the importance of organizational and social culture as significant influences on inter and intra team dynamics. He has a firm understanding of the challenges associated with organizational change, especially when that change initiative challenges deeply ingrained institutional beliefs and assumptions.
Currently serving on the Medical Executive Committee of a community hospital in one of the fastest growing cities in the country, Mr. McGinnis is actively engaged in ongoing change initiatives focusing on patient experience, physician leadership and civility in the workplace.
